    Unless you’ve been camping out in the woods for the last few years, you’ve probably heard of the word ‘Blog’. This word is derived from what was formally known as web logging. Blogs used to be the domain of the internet geek, desperate to tell the world of their latest technological triumph. These days, the blog is a refined and polished tool which is used by many savvy home business owners to promote their products. Blogs represent an easy way to get traffic – search engines love constantly updated websites, and that is basically what a blog is. This article explores how a blog can be used to create a free home based internet business.

    The first thing to do in deciding on a blog is to think of who is going to read it. You want get your audience interested, to the extent that they frequently visit it, and ultimately click on your Adsense, affiliate links, or even a link to your main website. Spend some time writing good content, and you will get repeat visitors.

    You need to keep the content relevant to the particular niche it serves. Don’t go off at a tangent in a bid to promote the latest product you’re promoting. The modern day internet surfer is highly sensitive to marketing, and will know when he/she is being primed for a sale. Make sure you include long tail key phrases in your post – you have a better chance of ranking highly in the search engines, which will boost the numbers of casual visitors. Casual visitors can be converted to regular visitors, provided you have decent content.

    Write in your own style – don’t be tempted to post articles you’ve found in an article directory. The visitor needs to feel like they are being communicated to by you, not reading some article. Even if you can’t think of much to write, 100 words in your own voice will be received much more positively than a 700 word article that someone with a degree in English wrote.

    If you’re including affiliate links on your blog, why not use a pictorial adverts rather than a mere link? This will add colour to your blog, and will also make it look a bit more professional. Many affiliate programs these days provide graphics which you can use – if not, then just Photoshop some up!!

    As you are probably aware, owning and maintaining a blog can be financially rewarding if go about it correctly. Before starting it, it would be a good idea to have some ready made content, which you can use to update it for the first few weeks. So spend some time writing some good quality content, enough to last for the first month or so of updates. This will give you the time to concentrate on technical aspects, like monetizing and driving traffic to your blog, turning it into your free home based internet business.

    Why I Blog
    I am not really too sure why I blog. I think it might be because I can write something new every day or whenever I want. I can add new content whenever I want. Unlike a website , a blog is new everyday. You can find something new to read everyday and with my hyperactivity , I love to have something new all of the time. I get bored very easy and being able to blog about new things and reading new blogs all of the time is great.
    I also like the idea of making a little bit of money while blogging. I use some ads ( like Google, Amazon and the like) and I belong to a few pay per post sites. They pay you to post on your blog about whatever the opportunity is that they give you to write about.
    I do not think I will get rich doing this ,but the extra money I have made helps. I made over $700.00 last month and hope that it just keeps raising.
    I still just blog for fun.
